Leigh Griffiths seems to be well behind Odsonne Edouard when it comes to the Celtic starting line-up at the moment. The Frenchman has been in great form this season, and as a result, Griffiths has been on the bench for the Hoops.

That is no slight on Griffiths, it was always going to take a while for the player to get up to speed after missing much of last season. However, Neil Lennon should perhaps consider giving Griffiths a start for the Hoops against Hamilton on Saturday.

There are a few reasons why. Firstly, Edouard played two games for the French under-21 side this week. Griffiths had a free week this, as he wasn’t in the Scotland squad. Therefore, Lennon may feel that Edouard should be on the bench after his efforts for the national side.

Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, is Griffiths’ excellent record against Hamilton. In 12 matches for Celtic against them, he has scored nine goals.

That includes a goal in a 3-0 win last season. Griffiths could then get the nod to start the game for the Hoops.

It would be good for the player to get a start against Hamilton. He has only started three games for the Hoops this season.

A decent record so far this season

However, he has scored three goals in eight games so far this season, which is a decent return. A start and a goal against Hamilton would give a real boost to Griffiths’ confidence.

A start for Griffiths would also show that he remains firmly in Neil Lennon’s plans as the Celtic season begins to get hectic.

Celtic will want to maintain their 100% league record against Hamilton, even if that means making a few changes from the team which defeated Rangers.

Griffiths has shown on multiple occasions in the past he knows how to find the back of the net against Hamilton. Should he start the game, it would be no surprise to see him find the back of the net once more.
