Some Celtic fans were left desperately disappointed with the performance of winger James Forrest against Rangers this afternoon after Steven Gerrard’s picked up a Scottish Premiership victory at our expense.

Forrest has been one of the most reliable Hoops performers so far this season, scoring 14 goals and assisting 16 more in 34 appearances (Transfermarkt).

However, that lethal nature in front of goal was not on display today and neither was his creativity. He was kept extraordinarily quiet throughout his time on the pitch before being hauled off midway through the second half.

The 2-1 defeat is a damaging one that moves the Ibrox side just two points behind Neil Lennon’s men at the top of the Scottish Premiership table. They also have a game in hand after Celtic played an extra match this month.

Celtic’s overall display was far from good enough, across the team, so while Forrest got much of the criticism, he was not the only poor performer by any stretch.

The winter break will now provide a period of reflection for Lennon, his coaches and his first-team squad, as they ponder what went wrong and what needs to be fixed before a frantic second half of the season.

It’s been apparent for a while we’re in a toe-to-toe title fight, but today’s match made it clearer than ever.

These fans took to Twitter today to share their thoughts on Forrest’s Sunday display…
