It seems almost certain that Celtic’s January signing Jeremy Toljan will start for the Hoops in Sunday’s Glasgow derby against Rangers.

Celtic boss Neil Lennon disclosed to Celtic TV, as cited by the Daily Record that Mikael Lustig is a doubt for the derby with a ‘dead leg’.

All but confirmed

That means it is all but confirmed that Toljan will start in the right-back slot against Celtic’s bitterest rivals.

Should Toljan start, he will need to up his game. He has turned in a series of indifferent performances so far for the Hoops. As yet, he hasn’t really lived up to the hype since his loan arrival from Borussia Dortmund.

Kickstart Celtic career

Perhaps a good performance against Rangers will kickstart his Hoops career. It should not be forgotten that Lustig struggled badly in his last performance against Rangers.

Ryan Kent had a field day against the veteran defender in the 1-0 defeat at Ibrox in December.

If Toljan is able to quiet down Kent, who will be one of Rangers’ biggest threats on the day, it could turn his Hoops career around.

A good performance could also persuade Celtic that the player is worth pursuing on a permanent deal in the summer.

It is time to Toljan to stand-up and be counted, and there is no better game to start to shine in than the Glasgow derby.
