Andrew Gutman makes Celtic debut in friendly vs Arbroath

Andrew Gutman made his debut in Celtic colours today, but only in a friendly defeat to Arbroath.

In a Celtic XI coached by Damien Duff, Gutman was listed as a trialist. He went on to play in the match as Celtic lost 4-3 to the Red Lichties.

Other players in the Celtic side included the likes of Karamoko Dembele and Kundai Benyu. It as certainly a game for the fringe players and young stars to impress.

But, despite all of this, Gutman still hasn’t had a deal by Celtic announced via the club’s official channels. This is now becoming a bit of a dragged out transfer dealing, and you have to wonder whether Celtic have truly made their mind up on him yet.

The deal was expected to be complete last week. According to the Daily Record, it was supposed to be done on two occasions, but never turned out to be the case. After seeing Gutman finally make an appearance, however, it’s good to know that he is indeed in the country and getting involved.

Did he impress Damien Duff?

Duff will surely be looking to report what he saw from Gutman to Brendan Rodgers. The USA left-back needs to have a decision made on him as soon as possible. If a deal to Celtic has already been completed, then where is the announcement from the club?

Emilio Izaguirre made his 10th Celtic appearance of the season today against Airdrieonians. It was a decent enough display, but Izzy is on the way out as he struggles to show consistency. Meanwhile, Kieran Tierney is sweating over being fit for the Valencia match at Parkhead on February 14th.

All of this shows that Celtic are still light at left-back. Jonny Hayes and Callum McGregor aren’t suited there, despite Rodgers previously throwing them in.

The sooner Celtic get Gutman on board the better, but there’s still no sign as to when this move will be wrapped up. In any case, it was good to see him make an appearance regardless.
