Ange Postecoglou confirms he is "really hopeful" of Celtic transfers shortly
Ange Postecoglou is “really hopeful” Celtic will be making some much-needed signings early in the new year, speaking on BBC Radio Scotland today.
The Celtic squad against St Johnstone was severely depleted. Despite a 3-1 victory, there are definite concerns about the strength in depth of the Bhoys side when key players suffer injury or Covid-related absences.
Thankfully we are now less than a week away from the January transfer window opening. And while Postecoglou refused to say deals had been done, it’s sounding good.
Speaking to Radio Scotland after the win in Perth, the Bhoys boss said: “We’re working towards that [getting deals done at the start of January]. The start of January is only a few days away so we’ll see. There are still things to be done.
“But we’re really hopeful we’ll have them in early in the new year.”
The three players most consistently linked with a move to Celtic recently have been Reo Hatate, Daizen Maeda and Yosuke Ideguchi.
However, as ever, there are no guarantees of a player coming into Celtic until they arrive in the country, seal all the paperwork and it’s announced by the club.
Still, having a duo or trio of J-League signings bolster the squad will be very welcome. Just look at the impact Kyogo has made over the last six months.
At least two of these potential signings, Hatate and Maeda, have been performing at a similar level to the Celtic superstar prior to his exit from Japan.
Get them in and get them training Celtic! The next time the team plays, we could have a really fresh look to the starting eleven.
