Ange Postecoglou wants "two or three" transfer windows to complete Celtic rebuild

Ange Postecoglou believes his Celtic rebuild will be completed over the next couple of transfer windows at the latest.

The Greek-Australian isn’t long off a summer transfer period that saw as many as 20 players leave the club either permanently or on loan. Meanwhile, 14 players came through the entrance door, granted four have regularly been used with the Celtic B side.

As expected, the transition has been anything but smooth. Postecoglou has had to totally rip things up and start again. With two wins in his last eight, it’s clear there have been early teething problems. Not least an injury crisis to rival the worst of them.

But with many wondering just how long it will take Postecoglou to have this Celtic team where he truly wants it, the manager has provided something of a timeline for just that.

As quoted by the Daily Record, Postecoglou said: “It’s no secret we still need to add to the squad. We were never going to do it in one transfer window, especially when you look at the significant exits we had.

“It was always going to be a two or three window process so we’re looking at January at the moment. We know the areas we need to bolster. It’s about getting more players that I believe can play the type of football we want to play.

“There is a mentality attached to that. It’s about the type of personalities who are going to be brave and really ambitious. That’s what we’re trying to target. We will definitely be adding something to the squad.”

Promising signs a must if Postecoglou wants to see his Celtic rebuild through

So effectively, Postecoglou believes, at the latest, it will take another 11 months or so to have this Celtic team where he’s happy with it. That’s all well and good, but the next 11 months won’t come to him for free.

He’s big enough to know that. One of Postecoglou’s biggest frustrations appears to be that external figures believe he doesn’t know about the pressures or implications of not achieving instant success. He 100% has an understanding of what he needs to do in the meantime.

And, in fairness, you can’t truly have a go at this timeline either. We all acknowledged just how grand the rebuild was at Parkhead earlier this summer. It was never going to finish with a few months when we got a few players in the door.

Postecoglou also isn’t saying he needs another year or so to make Celtic competitive. Simply that, to get the team he wants the Hoops to be, he needs time and another couple of transfer windows.

It’ll be interesting to see how much activity the manager gets done in January. It’s already October, meaning there will be plenty of prep work going into new year deals already.

But between now and then, Ange needs one thing – results. That, in the end, will be what defines whether he can see his full Celtic vision through.
