Ben Siegrist didn’t enjoy facing Giorgos Giakoumakis as a Dundee United goalkeeper, but is already relishing going up against him in training.

Siegrist was on the receiving end of some physical play from the Greek Celtic striker last season, with Giakoumakis showing how effective he can be in the Scottish Premiership.

Taking part in a club Q+A session today, the Swiss goalie made it clear it wasn’t a battle he particularly enjoyed or got the better of!

He said when asked who he didn’t like playing at United [Celtic Twitter]: “Giako smashed me a few times and he scored! We’ve already got a competition going in training. I look forward to it now, but I didn’t back then.”

Meanwhile, the summer signing has also shared why he chose Celtic over all the other clubs who were keen on his services this year, stating: “Celtic are the Champions – the best in Scotland and playing Champions League football. The stadium, the atmosphere, the fanbase, the quality of players – just to name a few!

“I want to help achieve the club’s goals. The manager speaks about being the best you can be as an individual and the best together as a team.”

As for how he’s getting on settling into Stevie Woods’ goalkeeping unit, Siegrist said: “It’s been really good! We’ve got a great group here. Everybody is vibrant and likes a joke but we like to work hard as well so we’ve got a good goalie union going!”

Siegrist already has Celtic minutes under his belt after coming on for Joe Hart vs Wiener Viktoria mid-week.

The Englishman is very much still the number one at the Bhoys but the Swiss newcomer will be eager to push him as much as possible.

Part of that will be fitting into the way Celtic work and go about their business. The initial signs suggest he is already a good choice for the culture Ange Postecoglou has fostered within the squad.
