Ben Siegrist's brilliant quote on Celtic transfers as he prepares for pre-season
Celtic goalkeeper Ben Siegrist has delivered a brilliant quote on players signing for the Hoops as he stated that it’s the club that chooses the player and not the other way around.
Siegrist joined the club last week as Ange Postecoglou secured his second summer signing after Cameron Carter-Vickers agreed a permanent move to Parkhead.
Celtic look to be in total control this summer as they add to their squad. Granted, there are certain signing targets that look to be difficult to bring in. Vinicius Souza being the prime example, with the player reportedly having reservations about playing in the Scottish Premiership [Sky Sports].
But Siegrist has shown what being committed to a move to Celtic means as he brilliantly stated that it’s the club that chooses the lucky player.
As quoted by the National, the new recruit said: “Celtic needs no introduction. It doesn’t matter which corner of the world you are, people know about Celtic. It was a great impression playing here for the first time. It was a great impression competing, seeing the fanbase.
“That is exciting because I am part of it now but I think a player does not choose Celtic, I think Celtic chooses them.”
Ben Siegrist highlighting exactly what it means to sign for Celtic
This is top quality stuff from Siegrist here, and he’s absolutely bang on. Players operating at a lower level should be honoured that a club of Celtic’s size are interested in or chooses them to be a part of the club.
Yes, the reality is that player power these days has changed. As has how quickly they want to reach the very top of the game. So many players see one of the top 5 European leagues as competitions they need to get to as quickly as possible.
That’s what can make it so difficult to bring certain players to Celtic Park. It’s why players still choose to leave us for the likes of Brentford and Bournemouth. They have a desire to reach what is widely considered the elite of club football.
However, amongst all of that it’s almost been forgotten about just how historic clubs such as Celtic and Ajax, for example, actually are. That’s what makes it so refreshing when you see a players such as Siegrist acknowledge the scale of the club.
Hopefully, our transfer work this summer goes as smoothly as possible. There’s no reason we shouldn’t be able to get our deals done in a timely manner this year.
And if we can get individuals with a similar mentality to Siegrist, we’ll be doing well.
