One of Vinicius Souza’s potentially most attractive options in Fenerbahce now looks off the table, after a report from Brazilian outlet Colunda do Fla last night.

The outlet claims that Fenerbahce want to take Flamengo midfielder Willian Arao as their new defensive-midfield option for the new season. This comes after previous reports had stated that the Turkish club were trying to lure Lommel star Souza.

Colunad do Fla have reported that Fener have had to move on from the Lommel man due to his hefty price-tag. It’s been reported by Sky Sports that Lommel are looking for as much as £8m for the Brazilian.

The City Group is said to want the player to be loaned out to Celtic [Sky Sports]. And it looks as though the path may be slightly clearer with Fenerbahce seemingly out of the mix.

Granted, Ange Postecoglou has tended to stay away from loan deals unless there’s an option for the Hoops to buy the player at the end of the agreement. That was the case with both Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota.

Whether Celtic would spend as much as £8m on the player remains to be seen. But it looks as though a move to Turkey is now off the table.

Vinicius Souza needs to want Celtic move for this to happen

We’ve already spoken about how Ange won’t be going around trying to sell the club to potential targets this summer. Souza isn’t any different from anyone else in that regard. For this to happen, he needs to actively want it.

That’s why reports about his apparent reservations over a move to the Scottish Premiership are concerning [Sky Sports]. Not just because it comes across as a lack of commitment and respect for the move, but because that alone may be enough to see Ange turn to fresher targets.

That’s just the reality of the situation. If Souza can’t see the package on offer to him at Celtic Park then there won’t even be an offer in front of him for very long.

Competition, of course, will still be rigorous to sign the Brazilian. He won’t go short of offers and that’s likely why he’s taking his time before deciding on his next move.

Souza has just spent a season on loan with KV Mechelen in Belgium and looks more than ready for a bigger step-up. That’s why a switch to Celtic Park feels like the most logical move for him.

We’ll see how this one ends up, but for now it at least we have one less club to try and beat to his signature.
