Scott Brown’s comments following Celtic’s 2-1 win over Hearts on Wednesday night show that it is time that all at the club moved on from the Brendan Rodgers era.

The Hoops skipper was very measured in his comments about Rodgers, who has moved on to Leicester City.

“Brilliant on a personal level”

“There is always going to be a lot of stick but for me he was brilliant on a personal level and that is what really counts” he told the Herald.

“It is never going to be a great time to have a manager leaving, but he has left us in a great place.”

Timing of departure upset fans

The timing of Rodgers’ departure really stuck in the throat of the Hoops support. But as the Hoops skipper says, Rodgers did leave Celtic in a good position.

The Bhoys are currently eight points clear at the top of the Premiership table. They also have a Scottish Cup quarter-final against Hearts on the horizon.

It is highly likely that behind closed doors some players are upset at the manner of Rodgers’ departure. But the way Brown has responded to the departure was the right way to go.

Rodgers deserves plenty of praise for the trophies he brought to the club. Brown was correct to point that out.

But that is all in the past. Now all at the club have to get behind Neil Lennon as he looks to clinch the league title.
