There was one aspect at the end of Celtic’s recent 4-0 win over Aberdeen that showed that Callum McGregor has plenty of leadership skills, and outlined just how important he is to the club.

When the players went over to celebrate with the Celtic support at the end of the win, it was noticed on social media that it was McGregor who encouraged the excellent Jeremie Frimpong to lead the celebrations.

That was a good move by McGregor, as it showed that he and the rest of his team-mates valued what Frimpong had done during the game, and they allowed the player to get the reception he deserved.

Move in-keeping with a potential captain

It could be argued that was a move in-keeping with what a Celtic captain should do. It would not be a surprise to see McGregor eventually succeed Scott Brown as the Hoops captain.

That would be the logical move. McGregor has been at Celtic for years, and if he is still at the club when Brown leaves the Hoops then he would be an ideal candidate.

The player won’t even be thinking about that yet though. He will be concentrating on playing football. However, in time, Celtic will need a new captain.

Manager will have candidates in mind

Neil Lennon will have some candidates in mind about who takes over from a Celtic legend in Scott Brown. However, the main candidate should be McGregor.

The fact that he had the smarts to let Frimpong take the adulation of the Hoops support can only be considered a good thing.

Celtic do seem to have a good team-sprit at the moment. Naturally, it does help that the team are winning games. However, little moves like McGregor’s can only improve the feel good factor even more. That is why when the time comes to select Celtic’s next captain, McGregor will be high on the list.
