Celtic youngster Cameron Harper was pictured with the first-team during Lennoxtown training ahead of tonight’s match with Lille in the UEFA Europa League.

Harper caught the eye of supporters earlier this week after scoring a double against Rangers Colts in the City of Glasgow Cup semi-final on Monday.

Highlights posted to the official Celtic YouTube channel showed the American youth international smartly finishing inside the box on two occasions as the young Hoops ran out 3-0 winners in Dumbarton.

The 19-year-old forward has already been an unused substitute in three senior Celtic matches this season, against Dundee United, Ferencvaros and Motherwell.

With Neil Lennon hinting at serious squad rotation for the visit of the French high-flyers, Harper could find himself on the bench once again, or potentially even make his debut.

The manager talked about the youngster’s progress earlier this year, suggesting he was on a track to become involved with the senior side over the next 12 months.

Lennon has previously shown a willingness to give youngsters game time in effectively meaningless European matches.

Last season players such as Scott Robertson and Karamoko Dembele played away to Cluj in the group stage of the Europa League after Celtic had already confirmed progression.

It’s a different situation this year of course, but tonight’s match is no more important.

With Ismaila Soro and David Turnbull set to be given opportunities, it would be fantastic to see some homegrown Lennoxtown talent also get a chance to shine, even if not from the start.

Harper is included in Celtic’s Europa League squad as part of the ‘B List’, so would be eligible for action.

All eyes will be on tonight’s team announcement for any exciting curveballs from the manager.
