Celtic are in the top 10 mythological football club according to France Football journalists.
The Hoops beat the likes of both Milans, Red Star Belgrade and Arsenal for the position.
Furthermore, when all France Football criteria are considered, the Hoops are 21st overall ahead of Stuttgart, Roma and Galatasaray.
Celtic still leading the way among neutrals
The Hoops place in the top 10 ahead of massive clubs like Bayern Munich, Saint-Etienne and Dynamo Kiev.
This is a massive boost to the club, showing that despite a year out the Champions League, the club’s history remains high.
The mythological element is probably boosted by the famous Lisbon Lions and Celtic Park atmosphere and the links to the Glasgow Derby.
Bhoys competing with world clubs on wider criteria
In the overall table, the France Football journalists had 10 criteria to put clubs through to find out the results.
The criteria is:
- Number of players in current squad to have won a World Cup
- Continent level titles won (Champions League)
- Shirts sold per year
- Annual revenue
- Record transfer fee paid
- Average attendance
- Market value of current squad
- Ballon d’or trophies won since 1956
- Social media followers
- Clubs with the biggest mythical status
When this is taken into consideration, Celtic are 21st place in the world, ahead of Al-Ahly, Monaco and Santos.
The Hoops are the only Scottish team to appear in this table with Rangers and Aberdeen nowhere to be seen.
Unsurprisingly, topping the table are Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United.
Although the Hoops have beaten the likes of PSG and Bayern Munich in mythological status, because they are modern greats they are further up the overall table.
This table shows the Hoops are far and above the biggest and most historic in Scotland.
However, a big club like Celtic must be competing in the Champions League to maintain that.
The Bhoys must shore up the league before qualifying for the premier competition, as the less this happens the further down the table the Hoops will go in the table.
