Celtic are just one more derby win from rival supporters absolutely imploding

It appears as though the Rangers supporters are already close to the edge when it comes to Giovanni van Bronckhorst and their club ahead of Sunday’s Glasgow derby at Hampden.

Regardless of what happens tonight when they face Braga in the Europa League, the Ibrox supporters have been left fuming with recent defeats to Celtic.

The 3-0 mauling of van Bronckhorst’s side back in February was followed by a confident 2-1 success at Ibrox a fortnight ago.

Whilst van Bronckhorst appeared to be given something of a pass after the Parkhead loss, rival fans were left incandescent with rage towards him less than 2 weeks ago. Many were calling for him to resign after Celtic stormed 6 points clear with plenty saying they had lost faith in him.

It all came after some infighting with their own board too. As the furore over the Sydney Cup rolled on, Rangers had called out their own fanbase in the build-up to the previous derby. That was met with severe anger, with the derby defeat adding fuel to the fire as an implosion threatened to happen.

However, what kept them going was the fact that their season was and remains still alive. The Scottish Cup represents their only realistic chance at silverware left. And this most likely proved to be the sole reason why they hadn’t totally turned on their club.

Rangers are on the brink of a total disaster – Celtic can tip them over the edge

But make no mistake, if Celtic waltz out of Hampden with a 3rd consecutive derby win, it’ll cause absolute anarchy amongst their fanbase.

All of a sudden there will be a roaring cry for van Bronckhorst to depart. There will be complaints and deep analysis of their recruitment both in the summer and in January. Steven Gerrard will probably even get it in the neck too as will their board for the power shift they’ll have overseen.

Celtic are so close to the most perfect end to the season imaginable. Rangers, meanwhile, are teetering on the brink of sheer disaster. And if they end the season without a trophy, there will be infighting and finger-pointing all throughout the summer.

But it’s all down to whether Celtic can do the business on Sunday. The league is close to being done and dusted and our rivals know it. So if they end up being KO’d out of the Scottish Cup, and by Celtic no less? The reaction will be absolutely beautiful.

Over to you Celtic.
