Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has been gushing with praise over the “outstanding” Tom Rogic in an interview with Optus Sport.

Rogic has been one of the standouts under the new manager in what’s been a revival season for the Australian international. The talented attacker has 5 goals and 10 assists to his name this term and has featured in 42 games for the Hoops this season [Transfermarkt].

It comes off of an inconsistent year for Rogic under Neil Lennon last term. A campaign in which no Celtic player really delivered throughout the course of the season.

But Ange has had nothing but praise for his countryman since his arrival. And speaking to Optus, he was left beaming over what he’s been producing this term.

“Tommy’s been outstanding. I mean, I worked with him in the national team and we watched him grow up. So I kind of knew what I was getting from a playing perspective. Tommy was in a bit of an awkward space as well. He hadn’t had a great year last year like everyone else, but I think he probably took a bit of comfort as well that I was walking through the door and he kind of knew what to expect from me. Especially from a footballing aspect

“The way we play would certainly suit him. He’s been brilliant, because I’ve got no doubt that when I first walked in, he was the most popular guy in the dressing room as to trying to find out a bit about.”

Tom Rogic has found his feet again under Celtic boss

You can’t deny how big a period the last 9 months or so has been for Rogic. He looked to be on his down the Celtic pecking order before Ange arrived.

As the manager states here, there’s absolutely no doubt that the Australian international has taken heart from his countryman coming in as manager. Rogic knew what to expect from Ange and the manager knows how to get the best out of Tom as well.

There’s a reason he’s been starting so many big games for Celtic. He is, as things stand, our first-choice number 10. Given the confidence is flowing once more, it’s no surprise to see him commanding a place in the team once again.

You also can’t diminish how important it is that Rogic has been happy with life at Celtic this season. You can see when watching the Aussie just how much he’s enjoying his football. He’s constantly in amongst the celebrations and is playing with a real smile on his face at the moment.

Unfortunately, Tom has had to drop out of the Australia squad due to injury. This came after a nasty challenge from Ross County’s Kayne Ramsay at the weekend. Fingers crossed it isn’t anything too concerning.

With Ibrox on the horizon, Tom would be an almost cert to start. Fingers crossed he gets himself back fit and firing for that one.
