Celtic boss' latest update on James Forrest
Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has provided an update on James Forrest after the player’s most recent setback.
The Hoops confirmed that Forrest was staying in Scotland after being identified as a close contact of a positive Covid case. The Daily Record then reported that he’s also being treated for a mysterious injury.
Whatever the case, Forrest isn’t with the rest of the first-team squad in Wales. It’s unclear whether he’ll be fit for the UCL Champions League qualifier against Midtjylland on July 20th either.
Postecoglou last night touched on his fitness concerns and states he won’t need much prep to get back to speed regardless.
As quoted by the Glasgow Times, Postecoglou said: “Again the good thing is up until recently he was involved with the Scotland squad. I don’t expect him to be too far off the pace when he comes back in.
“I know he is really keen to come back in. I’m looking forward to getting him in because I think he will be an exciting part of what we’re trying to build.

“I’m not sure if it’s a problem for the Midtjylland tie at the moment. I will tell you when we get to that point. I’m dealing with what’s in front of me. I have only had since Monday with the whole squad. By the end of this camp I will have a much better idea of where we’re at.”
Celtic boss’ update on James Forrest not reassuring; right-wing a problem position
Postecoglou is trying to keep a positive tone up here, but it does anything but reassure the supporters.
There’s still yet to be any real clarity on how long Forrest is actually out for. If it’s simply a close contact situation, Postecoglou would know the exact date he should be back in the squad for.
This makes it lean towards the idea that there is indeed an injury involved. That would be a hammer blow for Celtic considering the fact we have no viable right-wingers available at the moment.
Marian Shved hasn’t been seen at the training camp in Wales. Karamoko Dembele was surprisingly omitted from the first friendly of the schedule against Sheffield Wednesday too.
It could be the case that Celtic are forced to throw Owan Moffat into the fray after his impressive goal and performance yesterday. But that would seem far too heavy a step-up to be deemed ideal.
Hopefully, there’s some more news on Forrest next week. The last thing we need ahead of the new campaign is for our only senior right-winger to be out for a prolonged period.
