Jeremy Toljan’s debut wasn’t quite the 90 minutes we may have been looking for, but he put in a solid 45-minute shift instead.
The German signed for Celtic on deadline-day from Borussia Dortmund until the end of the season.
An injury scare to Mikael Lustig gave Toljan his chance to make an impression. Supporters have since lapped up the second-half performance of their new-man, as Celtic strolled to a 2-0 success.
We’ve taken a look at some of the best reaction to Toljan’s debut from social media. Here’s a quick look at other supporter’s views:
toljan was quality today, looks like KT on the right

Toljan looks a player. Linked up play without fuss and knew when to tuck inside and when to hug the touchline

Good win today. Weah and Burke look like good business. Hope the injurys to Forrest and Eddy aren't long term. Also Toljan looked at home right away, excellent pace both ways. Excited to see him and KT both in the team. 🍀HH

Have to say as well Toljan looked the part when he came on. He may need to get used to the physical/aerial side of things, but he looks a lot more comfortable going forward than Lustig. Lustig has been a tremendous servant, but let's face it he's past his sell by date

I thought the boy Toljan did very well in his 45 minutes. Great dynamism down the right hand side, and played some terrific passes. Tierney back on the left, and we’ll start tearing teams apart, again.

A lot of positivity around Weah performance and rightly so … but what about the debut from Toljan?? Thought he oozed class considering he’s not had much game time! 🍀@CelticFC

We’ve still so much to learn about new man
There’s no denying it was an impressive cameo, but we’ve plenty to learn about Toljan.
The plus points were how quick he looked going forward, as well as the chemistry he seemed to have with players even this early. He got beyond Scott Tanser on a couple of occasions, putting some good crosses into the area. One particular low ball was a lovely pass to Oli Burke, who was denied by Zander Clark.
But, in fairness, we’ve still to see the defensive side of Toljan’s game. He seems to have the pace to get up and down the left easily enough, but regarding one-v-one defending, there’s still plenty to learn about him.
It also remains to be seen if he’s even the number one right-back yet. He only came on because Lustig was struggling with an achilles injury. Had the Swede been fit to come out for the second half, it’s probably safe to assume he would’ve done.
But Toljan has done himself no harm for a potential place against Hibernian on Wednesday night. You have to expect he would be worked a lot more defensively too at Celtic Park in mid-week.
Regardless, one thing’s for sure – Toljan has certainly made an early impression.
