Celtic fans proved Lennon wrong twice; now they've shown up the board too

The Celtic fans have been reacting to the club’s reported stance on Neil Lennon – many of you aren’t happy.

Indeed, the Scottish Sun reported last night that Lennon still had the backing of Dermot Desmond. This was due to the fact Celtic bossed things at Ibrox.

However, many fans aren’t happy with that logic. For many of you, Lennon still lost the game – his third consecutive derby defeat. He’s now a whopping 19 points behind Rangers and has been bundled out of three competitions before 2021 kicked in.

It’s a bad wrap sheet. Not one any of us would’ve accepted at the start of the season. Not something any champion in world football would likely except either. Unless you’re the Celtic board of course.

The perception is “what do we know?”. It’s not as if we know the ins and outs of the club and the major problems of it, do we? Well we can make a pretty good guess of things.

And we have previous in proving the manager wrong this season on two counts. You can go all the way back to September to hear the first calls of Ismaila Soro and David Turnbull getting more game-time. The fans were crying out for this for months, with the midfield horribly stagnant.

Lennon refused to listen. He gave Scott Brown and Olivier Ntcham every chance. When did he finally introduce them? December 10th against Lille at home. We went on a six-game winning run that sparked a massive improvement in the midfield. We also dominated Rangers at Ibrox and deserved the three points there too.

Celtic fans got it right regarding team selection; they got it right on Lennon too

None of this would’ve happened had Lennon not finally bowed to supporters’ demands.

It was the same with the combination of Leigh Griffiths and Odsonne Edouard. Fans have wanted two up top all season. We’ve all been wanting to see this dynamic duo paired together more frequently.

Once again, when did Lennon decide to go ahead with it? Two days before Christmas. Griffiths then scored three goals in three games whilst Eddy started finding his mojo again.

For a support that isn’t supposed to know as much as the manager, we’ve fair identified what needed done quicker than any employee at Parkhead.

And, sadly, we’ve been right about Lennon since October too. Celtic 1-4 Sparta Prague was the final straw for many Hoops fans (Caught Offside).

The board know how Celtic fans feel about this. We’ve been right on how to improve the team all season. However, when it comes to the really tough decision, the board doesn’t appear to want to know.

They’ve consistently backed Neil and it’s led to a massive decline in results and our season overall. Yes, we’ve improved in recent weeks. But fans knew what to do with this team months ago. Lennon’s only just catching up.

And it’s been proven to be the same with the fans and what to do with the managerial position. However, regardless of whether we prove the board wrong or not, they clearly don’t want to listen.
