It isn’t often that Celtic fans listen to what a former Rangers boss has to say. But the comments from former Rangers boss Alex McLeish in the wake of Celtic’s recent 2-0 Glasgow derby defeat are worth examining.
He feels that the Hoops performed ‘meekly’ at Ibrox, and that the recruitment of players has to be better in the summer.
“Looking at their recruitment”
“Given that Celtic lost that game rather meekly, even though they are preparing for a cup final and maybe with a few tired legs and maybe not focusing as much as they would be, they might think they need to be looking at their recruitment” McLeish said, as reported by the Scottish Sun.
McLeish is right to call the Hoops out on their performance and on their recruitment.
Performance was insipid
The performance at Ibrox was insipid, even though the league has been won. The recruitment for the most part in the last year has been poor.
Sunday’s defeat should act as a wake-up call for the Hoops to get their act together, and bring in some new players that will make a difference next season.
You can only rely on the same players year after year for so long. Celtic fans might not want to admit this but McLeish is right in what he says. It is time for the Hoops to freshen things up.
