Celtic’s reserves powered to the top of the reserve league with a convincing 6-0 win over Dundee at Forfar today.
The match itself was extremely one-sided, with the official Celtic Academy Twitter page providing play-by-play updates this afternoon.
Yet, topping the table was just one positive outcome to come out of the contest. The others included a first goal in green-and-white for Vakoun Issouf Bayo, further strikes for Jack Aitchison and Armstrong Oko-flex, and even some more game-time for Marvin Compper.

The victory follows similarly impressive wins against Kilmarnock and Falkirk in recent weeks.
The most pertinent aspect of this for many Hoops fans will have been Bayo’s goal. Footage of the game has not yet been released by the club, but highlights of reserve matches are posted on the club’s Twitter and YouTube generally a day after the contest.
Bayo getting off the mark is crucial. He hasn’t been seen in the last two squads under Neil Lennon. That’s despite the fact he made his debut in the 1-0 win at Rugby Park under Brendan Rodgers.
Bayo is, after all, a Rodgers signing. He has every right to be furious with the Northern Irishman’s departure last week. He’ll now have to seriously start making a case to Lennon as to why he should be in the match-day squads.
Of course, his goal sandwiched strikes from the likes of Aitchison (x2) and Oko-flex. The duo have been in fine form for the reserves in recent weeks, and continued their progress this afternoon.
Marvin Compper back in the fold?
Another interesting aspect of this afternoon, however, was the appearance of Compper. That’s now three reserve matches in-a-row in which he’s featured for 90 minutes.
Compper’s injuries have seen him take a back seat at Parkhead. His signing is now largely regarded as a joke amongst the Celtic support. Do these recent appearances mean he’s truly over his injury problems?
Those are the three biggest takeaways from this afternoon’s match. Kerr McInroy and Thomas Caffrey also got in on the act, as Celtic banked a positive day in Forfar.
