Celtic fans may not be totally familiar with the name Agim Ibraimi – but they ought to be.
The 30-year-old has recent history with the Hoops in Europe having visited Celtic Park with two different clubs.
Ibraimi is best known for a scoring a stunning 40-yard lob for Astana back in 2016.
The North Macedonian lobbed the ball into the net from miles out following an error from Craig Gordon. Celtic went on to win the tie through Moussa Dembele’s late penalty but Ibraimi’s damage was still noted.
The attacker was also a standout when Maribor knocked Ronny Deila’s Hoops out of the tournament in 2014. Ibraimi dictated the match for the visitors according to this BBC report.
Ibraimi set to make Celtic Park return
Fast forward to 2019 and an older Ibraimi is fancying another crack at the champions. He’s with Shkendija now and actually notched their winner in the first leg clash at Nomme Kalju.
Celtic will be big favourites against the North Macedonians should the likely tie materialise. However, we should still be well aware that they’ll have players like Ibraimi who can cause us problems.
The 30-year-old will be well aware of what to expect in Glasgow, and he’ll be letting his teammates know too. Celtic’s element of surprise may have just evaporated.
