UEFA have confirmed Celtic’s official 25-man squad list for the upcoming Champions League campaign, with Yosuke Ideguchi the biggest name to miss out. [UEFA]

The full squad is: Joe Hart, Scott Bain, Benjamin Siegrist, Greg Taylor, Carl Starfelt, Moritz Jenz, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Alexandro Bernabei, Anthony Ralston, Stephen Welsh, Josip Juranovic, Reo Hatate, Callum McGregor, James McCarthy, Aaron Mooy, Matt O’Riley, Oliver Abildgaard, David Turnbull, Sead Haksabanovic, Liel Abada, James Forrest, Kyogo Furuhashi, Jota, Daizen Maeda and Giorgos Giakoumakis.

Ideguchi’s absence is likely explained by UEFA rules concerning the inclusion of home nation and club-trained talents.

Callum McGregor, James Forrest, Anthony Ralston and Stephen Welsh all count as club-trained while James McCarthy, Scott Bain, Greg Tayalor and David Turnbull count as nation-trained, fulfilling the eight-player requirement.

In this scenario, it makes sense to include McCarthy ahead of Ideguchi, who will have to settle for domestic action unless further squad changes are made in January.

Aaron Mooy’s and Oliver Abildgaard’s arrivals, both included in the squad list, has resulted in Ideguchi moving down the pecking order over the summer.

The Japanese talent arrived at the Bhoys in January and has struggled to play regularly, primarily because of injuries sustained in a match against Alloa Athletic and in training.

His most recent issue came after a productive pre-season and ruled him out of the first few weeks of the season. He is now back training with the first-team squad and could be included in upcoming Scottish Premiership and Premier Sports Cup clashes.

In other news, Celtic daft EFL boss left buzzing with Bhoys derby win in Saturday post-match interview.
