Chivas winger Isaac Brizuela wants Celtic to come in for him

Chivas Guadalajara winger Isaac Brizuela has claimed Celtic were in for him several years ago, and has admitted he wants them to come back too.

The right-winger was formerly with Toluca before making a move to Chivas in 2015. He has won league titles in Mexico with both clubs. Yet, despite that, it’s clear the winger still craves a move to Europe.

He’s also had big experience at international level too. Brizuela was part of the Mexico squad for the 2014 World Cup, and also won the CONCACAF Champions League back in 2018.

But the winger has revealed to Medio Tempo that Celtic were in for him before his big move to Chivas. And as he spoke to the Mexican outlet, he also revealed that he wants the Hoops to come back in for him.

A new dawn beckons for Celtic in Europe, as Joe Hart shows his class once again

“I heard about the rumours of Celtic’s interest, but I didn’t want to think about them too much as I didn’t want to get distracted. In the end, I’m not sure if they spoke to a Toluca director, but when I was with Toluca, Celtic did come in for me and the club didn’t want me to go.

“Celtic didn’t want to pay what Toluca wanted.

“Being here in Chivas I’m not sure if a scout came over or has come over recently. But I won’t give up hope. I know that I am a certain age, but I won’t give up hope that such a moment could come.”

Isaac Brizuela likely won’t be on Neil Lennon’s radar

Considering Brizuela moved to Chivas back in 2015, it would be extremely surprising if Celtic still have him on their radar. We’re talking four years ago, and we’ve had three different managers since then.

As well as that, one glance at our wide options tells you a story. Down the right, we have both James Forrest and Marian Shved battling things out. If Celtic were to fork out for Brizuela, it would be surprising considering the hope fans have for Shved to come good.

It’s also interesting to see that Brizuela believes he didn’t get his original move to Parkhead because the Hoops didn’t pay what Toluca wanted. That’s not like us surely! In all seriousness, you could see why Celtic would’ve been wary of splashing out too much over such a risky move.

In any case, it’s a ship that you have to imagine has sailed. When we needed some more wide options this summer, Brizuela wasn’t even mentioned. Either Celtic have dropped interest in him or Chivas were insistent he wasn’t leaving.

All the best to Brizuela in his bid to play in Europe of course. But a switch to Parkhead would appear to be optimistic at best.
