Celtic will get their 2020/2021 season underway on Thursday evening, with OGC Nice the opposition.
The match is one of three pre-season friendlies Neil Lennon’s men have lined up in France, as they prepare for the start of the Premiership season and a shot at ten in-a-row.
While the match, played at Lyon’s Groupama Stadium, is our first of the season, Nice have already faced our hosts back in early July.
Lyon won that 1-0 through a Houssem Aouar penalty, while Nice went down 4-1 to St. Etienne a week later.
This is their third pre-season clash. However, they’ve got plenty of time to get things right with the French top-flight season not due to start until August 22nd.
Nice are one of the best teams in France – and finished 5th in the curtailed 2019/2020 Ligue 1 season.
They also have three notable players you’ve probably heard of.
Club captain Dante may be reaching the final years of his playing career – but what a career it’s been.
The Brazilian, capped 13 times by his country, is most famous for being part of the Bayern Munich side who won the Champions League at Wembley in 2013.
The centre-back also won the Club World Cup during his time at Bayern as well as three Bundesliga titles and two DFB-Pokals.
He’s been at Nice since 2016, playing 123 Ligue 1 matches in that time.
He often plays in the middle of the back three favoured by Patrick Vieira.
Nice’s newest signing is the former Southampton and Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.
The 15 time France cap switched Everton for Les Aiglons a matter of weeks ago.
Schneiderlin was a regular for the majority of his three-and-a-half year stay in Merseyside – but a knee injury sustained in February meant that a return to his homeland was needed for a shot at first-team football.
The central-midfielder hasn’t played in either of Nice’s two friendlies so far, so it seems like an appearance against Celtic may not be forthcoming either.
Danish striker Kasper Dolberg is arguably one of the hottest prospects in Europe at present – perhaps alongside our very own Odsonne Edouard.
The 22-year-old switched Ajax for Nice last summer in a deal worth £18million, according to the Daily Mail.
Dolberg struck 11 goals in 23 league starts in his first campaign – making him the 8th top scorer in Ligue 1, behind the likes of Neymar, Mbappe and Dembele.
The star of Ajax’s run to the Europa League final in 2017, he’s a player who could go right to the top.
