A section of the Celtic support have been reflecting on the 16th anniversary of Celtic’s legendary UEFA Cup final against Porto.

The Hoops lost the game 3-2, but put up a valiant effort against Jose Mourinho’s side. Almost as important as the game were the scenes in Seville in Spain, where 80,000 fans travelled from all over the world.

Memories of the run

On the anniversary of the game, the Celtic Twitter account asked for some memories of that special day and the run to the final.

Here are some of the best replies from Twitter:

The run to the final was almost as memorable as the final itself. Celtic knocked out two English sides – Blackburn and Liverpool –  on the way to Seville.

Chances of a repeat are slim

The chances of that happening now with the increased money in the game seems to be remote.

These days the best Celtic can hope for is a run to the last 16 of the Europa League, if the draw is particularly kind.

Even Brendan Rodgers could only manage a last 32 run in the Europa League.

At least the fans will always have their memories of what was an incredible European run. It might have ended in a bittersweet way, but the memories of the run will last with the Celtic support forever.
