Neil Lennon may be keen to bring another midfielder to Celtic this summer judging by his latest comments.
The Northern Irishman has already added 18-year-old Luca Connell to his ranks but he could be willing to add further reinforcements in the coming weeks.
The Scottish Sun have some interesting quotes from Lennon as he commented on potential interest in Callum McGregor. The Scotland international is just one of many sought-after Hoops stars but Lennon says the club are doing all they can to keep him around.
“We’re trying to make the right inroads to keep him happy and keep him at a top level”, Lennon said.
“Every player has his price. We don’t want to sell any more top players.
“The squad is a little thin at the minute anyway, a couple of injuries and we would lack a bit of strength in depth.”
Is Lennon planning to sign another midfielder?
While Lennon may have been referring to the squad as a whole with his “strength in depth” comment, he still seems keen to bring in another central-midfielder.
So far this summer, Celtic have been linked with David Turnbull, Rekeem Harper and Paddy McNair in the position. There seemed to be some legs to all three rumours so it’s a fair assertion that Lennon wants another player in to bolster his ranks.
The club currently have six or seven players who can play in the middle of the park but that number could be weakened if the likes of Olivier Ntcham and Eboue Kouassi move on this summer.
If that happens then Lennon may feel the time is right to bring in one of his own players. Celtic don’t really have a Victor Wanyama type player at the club and that may be something that Lennon looks to change in the coming weeks.
It’s just one of a number of positions worth keeping your eye on.
