Bizarrely enough, the upcoming international break could define Celtic’s bid for a treble treble. The reason for the that: the number of players that the Hoops will have on international duty.
The Daily Record is reporting that 13 players will depart Celtic after Sunday’s game with Dundee to join up with their countries.
That includes players returning from injury like Callum McGregor. Mainstays like Dedryck Boyata and Kieran Tierney, and forgotten men like Cristian Gamboa.
Any injuries suffered on international duty could have a devastating impact on the Hoops’ quest for a domestic clean sweep.
The likes of Boyata and Tierney would be very hard to replace if they picked up an injury. Therefore, Neil Lennon will want Scotland to be sparing with how they use McGregor.
Not fit enough
He is only just returning from injury. It is highly unlikely he is fit enough to play two games in a week for Scotland.
Therefore, Lennon must ensure that McGregor isn’t run into the ground before he returns to Celtic Park. Normally Celtic fans don’t seem to bother that much about international football. However, that might be different over the next fortnight.
Fans will be waiting with bated breath to find out that the players have emerged from international duty unscathed.
Once that is over with, fans can look forward to the Hoops next league game – against Rangers.
