James Forrest’s Kilmarnock performance earned praise from everyone in Scotland, and it appears the Europa League are taking notice too.

The official Twitter page of Europe’s secondary club competition was quick to praise Celtic’s in-form right-winger. His deadly double against Kilmarnock subsequently helped shoot Celtic back to the top of the table.

The competition named Forrest as one of the four top performers from the weekend. This was out of the sides included in their tournament. The others included £30million-pound man N’Golo Kante of Chelsea. Arsenal’s Lucas Torreira and Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz were the final two to be recognised.

A Twitter poll was ran over who was the best performer of the weekend. Supporters crammed in their votes to ensure that the Celtic man came first on 41%

Showing his class

Forrest is really showing his class at Celtic this season. He’s been the main source of inspiration down the right, and has had to fend off adversity throughout his time at Celtic.

Injuries have done their best to keep him out of the game. Patrick Roberts’ spells at the club and relationship with the supporters was also tough to fend off.

Yet Celtic’s right-wing star has seen them all off. Now, he can boast a fantastic 13 assists and 10 goals to his name this season alone.

Forrest is absolutely flying, probably higher than he ever has done throughout his Celtic career. His brace at the weekend was therefore just a by-product of the performances he’s produced all season. Added to that he’s also managed to score his first five goals for the Scotland national side this season.

Celtic supporters always flood to support their players in polls such as these. Make no mistake, however, Forrest fully deserves to be mentioned among those names for his match-winning performance.

It used to be that the Hoops star didn’t turn up in the big games. But now? He just can’t help himself.
