Celtic boss Neil Lennon recently made an intriguing comment about Hoops attacker James Forrest. He revealed that the player was angry to be taken off during the 6-0 win over Ross County.
“He was raging with me” Lennon said in a video on the club’s YouTube channel. “He was playing brilliantly. You don’t want a late injury.”
“He just wants to play”
“He doesn’t get upset very often, he just wants to play. I wanted to save some of that for Thursday.”
Forrest’s attitude is that of a winner. Even though the game was well won, he wanted to keep playing to add more goals to his tally for the season.
His commitment to excellence is the reason why he has won so many trophies in his 10 plus years at the club. Neil Lennon will have been delighted with the player’s reaction.
Eager to score more goals
Forrest had already played his part in a Celtic win, but he was eager to push on. That is understandable, as he had scored his first goal in a while for the Hoops was no doubt keen to once more find the back of the net.
However, Neil Lennon was correct to take Forrest off. As he indicates, you don’t want the player to suffer an injury. That would be a real blow for the Hoops.
As Lennon says, he will be relying on Forrest to be one of Celtic’s main men against Lazio on Thursday. If he had suffered an injury and missed the game, it would have greatly lessened Celtic’s chances of getting the three points against the Italian side.
James Forrest has been one of Celtic’s best players during the current run of eight titles in a row. His importance to the team cannot be underestimated. It is good to see that despite winning every possible domestic trophy with the Hoops, he is still striving for success.
