John Hartson has delivered his verdict on Celtic’s 1-1 draw against French side Nice.

The former Hoops forward took to Twitter shortly after full-time in Lyon to give his thoughts on an entertaining draw between Neil Lennon’s men and the team who finished fifth in Ligue 1 last season.

Hartson wrote: “Great work out for the Celtic players. Lots of changes. Players at this stage searching for sharpness.

“Managers don’t get to eat up with pre-season results. All about minutes in the tank.”

It was great just to have Celtic back

The first friendly of pre-season is usually an occasion where the result pales in comparison to the performance and/or fitness levels.

However, the unprecedented situation we’re living through meant there was more of an emphasis on Celtic, and how good it was to have them back.

Hardly any Hoops fans will ever have gone four months without seeing their team play, so it was massively uplifting to see the likes of Odsonne Edouard and Callum McGregor strut their stuff – even if it was just in a meaningless friendly.

We’ve covered the game extensively since full-time on the site. You can find out player ratings here and our ‘three things we learned’ here.

Next up, is a reunion with Moussa Dembele as we face his Lyon side in the same stadium on Saturday night.

We then round off our French trip with a game against PSG before things ramp up further ahead of the big kick-off against Hamilton Accies on August 2nd.
