Celtic are showing interest in signing Hearts youngster Aaron Hickey, The Scottish Daily Mail reports.

Due to the ongoing public health crisis nobody even really knows what the upcoming transfer window will look like but needless to say the Hoops aren’t going to be completely inactive ahead of the new season.

We have standards to maintain and more titles to win.

Journalist Stephen McGowan at The Mail reports that Neil Lennon is watching the situation of 17-year-old Hickey, who has just a year left on his contract at the recently relegated Tynecastle outfit.

McGowan reckons that there is also interest from English Premier League sides Manchester City and Crystal Palace after Hickey’s breakthrough into the Hearts first-team.

The defender, of course, was on the books at Celtic prior to a switch to Edinburgh.

He made 30 appearances for Hearts in 2019/20, emerging as one of the best teenage talents in the division. However, in a struggling team, it’s hard for a player to properly showcase their talents.

A player so young getting a regular game in the Scottish Premiership suggests he has significant talent and potential, something that Celtic could perhaps harness better.

Lennon has shown in the past he has no problem giving young players a game if they are good enough.

Some supporters have certainly been encouraged by the reported interest, feeling Hickey would be a fine addition to the wider squad either in competition with Boli Bolingoli and Greg Taylor or just as a prospect to be loaned out.

These fans have taken to Twitter over the last couple of days to share their thoughts on the link…
