Leicester City are reportedly readying a £7.5million compensation package for Brendan Rodgers.
According to the Irish Independent, Rodgers is set to be officially approached. This comes after the sacking of Frenchman Claude Puel yesterday. Leicester currently sit 12th in the Premier League after a struggling season.
It’s an incredible compensation package to lure a manager away, but Celtic don’t particularly need it at this moment in time.
Rodgers incredibly walked out of an interview with the BBC yesterday after becoming frustrated with being questioned on the Leicester job. The Celtic manager has consistently committed his future to Parkhead in the past.
According to the Irish Independent, Leicester have labelled Rodgers as their number one choice. If they were to wait until the end of the season, it would apparently cost them £6million.
We could be about to find out plenty about Rodgers
Rodgers has consistently expressed the fact that he’s in his dream job. He’s a happy man and hasn’t once spoken about how he wants a move down south.
But as a Celtic supporter, he must also view the next couple of years with huge excitement. The Hoops are closing in on the famous 10-in-a-row. It’s the utopia for many Celtic supporters, and Rodgers has the chance to be the man to spearhead it.
Should Rodgers decide his future lies elsewhere, what a disappointment that would be given the exciting times that potentially lie ahead.
John Kennedy said yesterday that Rodgers is already planning for next season. That’s great news for Hoops fans in the sense that there doesn’t appear to be any walk-out plans from Rodgers once eight-in-a-row is won.
It’s difficult to gauge whether Leicester fit into that big job mould. Many supporters feel that Rodgers wouldn’t leave Celtic to go to a smaller club in England. Having been Premier League champions in the recent past, however, Leicester’s stock is higher now than it ever has been.
There’s certainly plenty of speculation regarding Leicester’s interest in Rodgers. Here’s hoping that Rodgers sticks by the Hoops if the time comes to make a decision.
