Neil Lennon was reasonably pleased with Leigh Griffiths’ performance in his return to the Celtic starting line-up.
Making his first appearance for the first-team since December, Griffiths played 45 minutes and scored and hit the post in the 6-1 win over SC Pinkafeld.
Lennon was happy enough with the display, describing it as ‘pretty good’ in an interview on Celtic’s YouTube channel.
“Should be delighted”
“In the main, pretty good. Gets a goal from two yards, I love them goals. He should be delighted with himself.”
As Griffiths is just back in the side, it would be expected that he would take time to get back on the goal trail. However, he has shown that he is still able to find the back of the net after a long lay-off.
A full game would be good for the player
It will be intriguing to see if Griffiths starts the Hoops next pre-season friendly against Wiener SC on Saturday. Perhaps he might be given the entire 90 minutes to build his fitness up.
There are only two friendlies left before the Hoops begin their Champions League qualifiers against Sarajevo. If Griffiths wants to start in those games, he needs as much game time as possible.
Therefore, it makes sense for the Hoops to give Griffiths 90 minutes in both of the friendlies to come. If he can emerge injury-free from those games, he might well start against Sarajevo.
