Belgium boss Roberto Martinez’ agent has claimed that his client will not become the next Celtic manager.

The Scottish Sun recently reported that a flurry of bets had been placed of Martinez, making him favourite to replace Brendan Rodgers.

But Martinez’ agent, Jesse De Preter, has claimed that Martinez won’t be moving to Glasgow.

“A false rumour”

“Roberto always seems to be on the shortlist as soon as there is a vacancy at a big club. But this is a false rumour about him going to Celtic” De Preter said, as reported by the Daily Record.

“It seems to have come from the fact Roberto has a Scottish wife, and he obviously has ties to the country. However, there’s nothing to see here and I would suggest the bookies review their odds.”

Move to Celtic seemed unlikely

In all honesty, it did seem unlikely that Martinez was ever going to take over at Celtic. He still has a job to do at Belgium, and will be managing a team that is one of the favourites at Euro 2020.

The chances of him giving that up to take over at Celtic always seemed a little far-fetched.

For the moment, interim manager Neil Lennon still seems most likely to take over as permanent boss. That could all change if results start to deteriorate. Only time will tell on that front, but what we do know is that Roberto Martinez won’t be the next Celtic manager.
