BT Sport pundit Michael Stewart has predicted that Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard will make the club multiples of the £9m fee paid for him in 2018, writing on Twitter.

The Frenchman was in outrageous form for Neil Lennon’s side on Wednesday night, scoring two goals away from home against Motherwell in a 4-0 win.

It prompted an outpouring of praise for the player, with former striker Chris Sutton even comparing him favourably to legend Henrik Larsson.

Stewart also paid tribute after covering the match for BT Sport, making a specific prediction that he will one day make a massive profit for the club, such is his quality.

Writing on Twitter, he said: “Celtic were simply outstanding, an absolute joy to watch, particularly in the 2nd half. Odsonne Edouard is flourishing into a sensational player who will eventually make Celtic many multiples of the £9m fee they paid for him.”

With Edouard seemingly getting better and better with every passing week, Celtic are likely rapidly approaching a time when they need to figure out how to handle the striker’s future.

His contract expires in 2022 meaning the upcoming summer transfer window is likely one which he would be at peak value.

However, perhaps the club can sound out the player and his agents with regards to stay and push the boat out on a lucrative contract that secures his position at Celtic Park.

Nobody is expecting the 22-year-old to stay in Scottish football forever but having him around to push for ten-in-a-row, if we win nine, is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Stewart is right, one day Edouard is going to land us a massive fee, a massive profit and potentially a record-breaking sum.

Picking when that moment comes is crucial and it’s a decision that Celtic can’t get wrong.
