New Celtic signing Yuki Kobayashi has released a farewell message to Vissel Kobe, declaring that he’s following his dream of playing in Europe.

Kobayashi was announced as the Bhoys latest signing earlier today, representing Celtic’s intent to continue to strengthen the squad in the winter transfer window.

For the 22-year-old it’s a significant career step and he has thanked Vissel for supporting his development from his days in the academy right through to this deal being completed.

Speaking to the official Vissel Kobe website, the defender said: “I have decided to transfer to Celtic FC. This season ended with a disappointing result, and I wondered if I should transfer at this time, but playing in Europe has been my dream and goal since I started playing soccer. I cannot thank the club enough for understanding this timing and sending me off.

“Ever since I entered soccer school, I have been brought up at the Vissel Kobe academy. I sincerely appreciate Vissel Kobe and Vissel Academy. That’s why I want to show the world the value of the Vissel Academy, and I want to be a player that the Academy’s players aim for.

“To all our fans, thank you for always supporting us with your passion. It was a special thing for me to be able to sing the Kobe anthem after the game with everyone on the pitch, which I have been singing since I was little.

“I have a dream to make Vissel Kobe the number one club in Japan and Asia. From now on, I will do my best to grow more and more so that I can return the favour to everyone involved in this club, and to deliver success to everyone. I would appreciate it if you could continue to watch over me. I’m going!”

Ange Postecoglou earlier cited Kobayashi’s desire to succeed in Europe as a positive of his move. We know the Celtic manager enjoys working with ambitious players who consider themselves to have a big future in the game.

Kobayashi has chosen and trusted Celtic to help develop his game and in turn, we can hope for another exciting option at centre-back, ready to push for first-team places.

Welcome to the Bhoys, Yuki!
