Neil Lennon says he hopes Celtic will have signed a couple of new players by the end of the week.
The Hoops was has been keeping his cards close to his chest so far this month so it is perhaps a little surprising that he spoke so openly from Celtic’s training camp in Dubai on Wednesday.
The names of Andraz Sporar, Tino Kadewere and Patryk Klimala have all been mentioned as possible recruits over the past fortnight and, while Lennon didn’t give any direct indication on any player, he did admit that work was going on behind the scenes.
“There’s a number of options,” he told the BBC. “We’re working hard behind the scenes to try to negotiate a deal and bring some players in,” Lennon added.
“We’re hoping by the time this week finishes we’ll have one or two new faces in.”
Lennon’s words are exciting for the Celtic support
Lennon was widely criticised in the summer for making claims about potential signings. The Northern Irishman regularly promised incomings by certain dates before being let down by his board.
We ended up having a pretty positive summer window but only after a number of signings were made late in the day. It’s therefore important that we bring in some new recruits this month as quickly and efficiently as possible.
With the team being in Dubai, it would be ideal of some of our new signings could bed in with their team-mates before they return to Scotland.
But if we take Lennon’s claims at face value, it is really promising that the club are making some sort of progress with new signings. Ideally, we’re after a striker as well as a centre-midfielder and even a centre-back. If we can sort all three, two of which by next week, then the Celtic support will be very happy indeed.
