One aspect of Celtic’s 5-0 win over Hearts on Wednesday night which was perhaps unexpected was the fact that the strike duo of Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths failed to get on the score sheet, an outcome that Neil Lennon was happy to joke about, as reported by the Scottish Sun.
Even though the pair have been in great form recently, neither man managed to find the back of the net.
The closest either player came to scoring was in the first-half, when Edouard played in Griffiths, but he shot into the side netting.
After the game, manager Neil Lennon joked that neither player would be happy that they hadn’t managed to score.
“It’s quite incredible”
“It’s quite incredible when you consider the form they’ve been in. They’ll probably be down there with petted lips because they love scoring! It’s a great team effort” the Hoops boss said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
The good thing for Celtic is that although neither player found the back of the net, they both managed to contribute to goals that were scored on the night.
Edouard’s shot on goal led to Olivier Ntcham giving the Hoops the lead after the goalkeeper had pulled off the initial save, whilst Griffiths’ corner was headed home by Christopher Jullien for the second goal.
Duo still managed to contribute
No doubt the duo must have been disappointed that their scoring run came to an end, but they did manage to contribute to the win in other ways.
There is no reason for Neil Lennon to leave either player out of the side that will take on Aberdeen on Sunday, as their form in general has been excellent.
Indeed, it would not be a surprise to see the pair both score for the Hoops in the visit to Pittodrie.
