Callum McGregor displayed a captain’s touch by sending new Celtic recruit Carl Starfelt a message after he signed.

Our new Swede did his first interview as a Celtic player today, and declared himself ready to go for Tynecastle.

The former Rubin Kazan man may not have met his Hoops team-mates in person yet, but he’s already got to know the skipper.

“It’s very nice. He sent me a nice message and we spoke a little bit,” Starfelt said of McGregor. (Celtic)

“Everyone I have been in touch with so far at the club seems very welcoming and nice.

“It’s nice that your team-mates help you get in to everything.”

Starfelt may be needed from the start against Hearts

It’s just as well that McGregor is trying to get Starfelt settled in as quickly as possible.

There’s a good chance that his experience will be needed against newly promoted Hearts on Saturday.

The young Celtic backline has taken a battering, both on and off the park, in recent weeks and the calming influence of a Sweden international may be badly needed.

For what it’s worth, Starfelt seems to be a pretty good talker.

Let’s hope he’s learned his new team-mates’ names.
