Odsonne Edouard’s goals have been vital for Celtic over the last six months, and he’s stated how much he enjoys life in Glasgow.
The Frenchman has been hitting the headlines more than any other Celtic player over the course of the international break. An incredible first two appearances for France under-21s saw him manage four goals. It was a dream haul for the Hoops star.
But even if his importance to his country is newly-found, the same can’t be said for how vital he is to Celtic’s cause. Already this season, Eddy has six goals for the Hoops. And, already this season, he’s netted big-game goals against the likes of Rangers, Cluj, and AIK respectively.
But the level of praise and interest in his performances have led to some concerns for Celtic supporters regarding his future. However, in an exclusive interview with Foot Mercato, Eddy stated how much he was loving life in Scotland.
“I’m having fun (at Celtic). I’m sticking in goal after goal and I’m playing most of the time. That’s what I need, I enjoy it.
“I didn’t have the chance to play (at PSG), so obviously I could not show what I was worth. Now that’s the case. I can show what I’m worth and I take the opportunity to demonstrate my qualities.
“I feel good (at Celtic), I have friends who are there with me. Olivier Ntcham now, Moussa Dembele before. They facilitated my integration. Today, I’m doing well and I know almost everything. Scotland is fine for me.”
Time to give Edouard the break he deserves?
It’s been a bit of a non-stop start to the season for the Frenchman this term. Already, he’s made 11 appearances for the Hoops this season alone. He’s missed just one match – Hearts at home where Celtic won 3-1 in convincing fashion.
And the trip to New Douglas Park on Saturday looks as fitting as any game when it comes to resting Eddy. After all, we still have Leigh Griffiths and Vakoun Issouf Bayo waiting in the wings. Both players can do a job against Accies, and both deserve a chance to impress.
If Lenny does decide to make the change, it will be interesting to see who he goes with. Griffiths hasn’t started a game since the Betfred Cup win over Dunfermline last month. Meanwhile, Bayo’s outing against Hearts, where he played a key part in two of our goals, hasn’t started any other game this season.
So there are options there, and Lennon must ensure that all three of his strikers are happy as the season goes along. Even though Edouard is in fine form, you’ve got to fancy our back-up men to do the job this weekend.
It’s also worth remembering that Celtic travel to Rennes next Thursday. The Hoops need Edouard fit and firing for that one. So why risk him on the astroturf surface?
As for his comments to Foot Mercato, it’s just great to continuously hear Edouard express his happiness at Parkhead.
