Kris Boyd reckons that Celtic talisman Odsonne Edouard could do with adding more goals to his game.
The mercurial Frenchman wowed virtually everyone after his hat-trick display against Hamilton on Sunday.
Former Rangers and Kilmarnock man Boyd praised Edouard’s weekend showing, then made the bizarre claim that the 22-year-old should score more goals.
Boyd was speaking on Sky Sports’ new Scottish Football Podcast, alongside Ian Crocker and Andy Walker.
He said: “When you look at the weekend’s performance, he was involved in the link up play.
“He was then in the box. There’s an urge about him to get in the box and get goals as well.
“If there’s one criticism, and this is going to sound stupid off the back of a hat-trick, he could probably score more goals.”
Edouard’s goal return puts Boyd criticism to bed
Well, you said it Kris. And it did sound a bit stupid.
In 2020, Edouard has played 15 games for Celtic, scoring 14 goals. Included in that tally are two European strikes against Copenhagen as well as doubles against Motherwell and Hamilton.
Edouard struck 22 league goals in 27 matches last season, with a further six in Europe.
For the French under-21 team, he has 11 in 6. He is the very definition of a goalscorer.
While Boyd’s comments weren’t exactly an attack on Edouard, and he did praise him too, he should really do a bit of homework on Edouard’s numbers before he makes another ill-informed comment.
As for Edouard, he’ll just continue to do what he does best. Scoring goals.
