Pat Bonner hails 'brilliant' Odsonne Edouard in Celtic victory
BBC pundit and former Celtic goalkeeper Pat Bonner paid tribute to match winner Odsonne Edouard on the back of the Hoops’ 1-0 win over Sarajevo in the Europa League, on the BBC Sports Europa League Live page.
It wasn’t the best performance from the Hoops on the night, but it was all about the win, and it was Edouard who delivered on the big stage once again for Celtic.
He was in the right place at the right time to take advantage of a goalkeeping error as Ryan Christie’s shot was spilled. Edouard pounced to make it 1-0 and the Hoops were in the group stages of the Europa League.
Bonner was impressed with how Edouard took his goal.
“An easy tap in”
“It’s a decent enough strike but the goalkeeper should do much better. Edouard has scored one of those brilliant strikers’ goals, an easy tap in from five yards out” Bonner said, as quoted on the BBC Sports Europa League Live page (01/10/20, 20:30).
Edouard might not have been at his best on the night. However, he did what had to be done, and got the goal which put the Hoops into the group stages.
Attacker can only get better this season
The Hoops striker can only get better this season. He is still getting over what was a recent injury. It should be remembered that he didn’t start in the recent win over Hibernian.
However, whilst he didn’t score in the win over Hibernian, he did perform well without scoring. It will be interesting to see if Edouard gets the nod to start for the Hoops against St Johnstone on Sunday. Perhaps Neil Lennon might decide to rest him, and give Leigh Griffiths a rare start.
Still, when it comes to the big games, Edouard continues to be the main man for Celtic. Hopefully he remains at Celtic for a few more years yet, and next season plays in the Champions League.
In other news, Neil Lennon has been impressed with Jeremie Frimpong this season.
