Celtic have contacted Sky Sports over Kris Boyd’s recent comments about Leigh Griffiths, according to a report.

The Daily Record is reporting that the Hoops have written to the broadcaster following Boyd’s bizarre comments about the Celtic striker following the midweek game against Kilmarnock.

The report goes on to say that the Hoops received plenty of messages from fans complaining about Boyd’s remarks.

Boyd criticised Griffiths following the game, claiming that the player ‘hadn’t been doing it on the training field’ and not taking into account the number of games Griffiths missed due to off-field issues.

“I’m doing him a favour here, because I’ll only include league games…there’s been 135 league games played, Leigh Griffiths has played 34 of them. That suggests to me that you’re not doing it in the training field. Perform on the pitch, score goals and actually get back to the level that you should be playing at” he said, on Sky Sports.

Now Celtic reportedly have taken issue with his comments.

It is good to see the Hoops standing up for one of their players, and Boyd’s comments deserve the criticism that the club has no doubt given them, as they were uncalled for.

It is intriguing that Celtic haven’t released an official statement on the matter. Perhaps that will change after the club get a response from Sky Sports.

You would have to think that the majority of Celtic fans will stand behind the club in the action they have taken. Something has to be done about Boyd’s comments, and the Hoops were right to contact Sky.

Perhaps the complaints from the Hoops support influenced their decision. However, you would have through that the hierarchy at the club would have taken action anyway.

Still, it is good to see the club stand-up for one of the players. Hopefully the issue is resolved to Celtic’s satisfaction.
