Report: Celtic star Ryan Christie doesn't want to sign a pre-contract elsewhere

Celtic star Ryan Christie doesn’t want to sign a pre-contract with another club because he fears being sidelined by the Bhoys, The Scottish Sun has reported this evening.

The paper say that Southampton, Sheffield United and Burnley are all keen on the Scottish international.

Technically he could sign terms with any of them right now, with his Celtic contract expiring at the end of the year.

However, the report cites ‘pals’ who reckon he doesn’t want to do that.

His future is still up in the air with no real sign of him putting pen to paper on a new Celtic deal either.

There’s every chance he leaves the club before the end of August or even on a free transfer in January.

Considering how well he is playing under Ange Postecoglou, that would be a real disappointment for supporters.

Christie had a pretty awful 2020/21 season, like many others at the club. However his goal contributions over the last few years have been excellent and losing him for nothing is far from ideal.

Clearly it seems he wants to keep playing this season regardless of where he ends up in 2022. Even if he doesn’t end up signing a new contract in Glasgow, it’s important he keeps performing until he’s out the door. If he can manage that I doubt there will be any ill will towards him.

I’m happy with his performances at the moment, and so is the manager.
