Report: Celtic to reinvest money from Odsonne Edouard sale into the playing squad

The Celtic board have told Ange Postecoglou that money gained from the sale of Odsonne Edouard will be reinvested back into the squad, according to the Daily Record.

The Record reports that Celtic could seal an agreement with Brighton worth around £18m for the Frenchman. If PSG were to receive 40% of that, it would still leave the Hoops with £10.2million.

And the Record claims that finances from the sale will be made available for Postecoglou.

It hasn’t been stated how much will be handed to the manager. But with a replacement for the Frenchman a necessity, he could do with all of it. Especially if we’re about to launch an offer for £7m OH Leuven striker Thomas Henry [Scottish Sun].

With Celtic having failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, this would be an impressive move by the board. A board that still has so much making up to do to supporters for last season.

And it’s clear that Postecoglou still needs depth across his backline in particular if we’re to achieve our goals this season.

Celtic reportedly ready to reinvest Edouard cash into the playing squad

There shouldn’t be any need for Celtic to keep any of the Edouard money as cash reserves.

Remember, Celtic have banked over £30m in transfer fees in 2021 alone. We should be more than sound enough financially to indulge on some much-needed squad additions with all money raked in from Edouard’s sale.

Not to mention the fact that Celtic have just run a hugely successful season-ticket campaign. Fans are buying into the Postecoglou era in their numbers. In terms of finances, Celtic should be in a terrific position.

As things stand, there is still plenty of work to be done. Edouard’s replacement would still need to be signed. Celtic also need cover/competition at right-back, left-back, and on the left-wing. We also need a left-sided centre-back to add to the mix too.

So the manager could certainly do with as much in the transfer budget as he can. The summer work is nowhere near complete despite the fact we’re into the final 21 days of the window.

Fingers crossed there is some movement this week. And if Celtic are serious about reinvesting the Edouard cash into the squad, the sooner we then get him off the books, the better for the club.
