To nobody’s surprise, Celtic are yet to officially announce that Martin O’Neill will stay on for next season.

It was widely reported last week that O’Neill will continue in his role as Celtic manager after his two successful interim spells during the recent campaign.

But there has been next to nothing from Celtic’s official channels, with even Chris Sutton being critical of the club’s ‘wall of silence’ on the matter.

Either way, speaking on Clyde 1, Scottish journalist Roger Hannah expects the official news to come through via the London Stock Exchange this week.

“It will be announced to the London Stock Exchange, I would suspect, one day this week,” said Hannah. “What day is it? I am not too sure.”

Celtic ‘move at their own beat’ as Martin O’Neill is yet to be announced

People need to remember, Celtic aren’t selling any merchandise here, so there is no need to rush.

This distinct lack of communication from the club’s hierarchy is exactly what fuels the supporters’ frustration, directly driving the non-stop criticism aimed at the board.

O’Neill has certainly changed the mood at Parkhead, culminating in Celtic winning the domestic double and a 55th Premiership title in the most dramatic of fashions.

But a leopard never changes its spots, as Hannah issued a sarcastic response to Celtic taking their time in making an official announcement about the new manager.

“Some people clearly don’t watch the way Celtic go about their business,” said Hannah.

“Martin O’Neill will be the Celtic manager next season. Sometimes Celtic move to their own beat. Not necessarily at the pace others would expect them to operate at.

“It will be announced to the London Stock Exchange, I would suspect, one day this week. What day is it? I am not too sure.”

O’Neill’s record as Celtic manager during his interim spell in charge

It was a shock to the system when O’Neill returned to Glasgow in October following the brutal exit of Brendan Rodgers.

Nobody would have written such a script when he returned once again in January, following the unforgettable 33 days of Wilfried Nancy.

All in all, O’Neill walked into a mess, but still walked out with the trophies and a pretty strong record on his return.
