Ryan Christie’s shirt number isn’t something many have spoken about, but could it be set for an upgrade?

Celtic of course announced this afternoon that Karamoko Dembele had signed his first professional contract with the club. It’s a huge plus for the Hoops, who’ve tied him down until 2021. It’s a huge piece of business that stops any worries of him being poached by other clubs.

The Bhoys were in the mood to celebrate it too. They posted a GIF on the official Twitter account of Dembele looking around the dressing room is awe. It was a cute video for supporters, and heightened the sense of occasion on the day.

But fans also noticed something very peculiar. In the background of the video, you can clearly see the shirt number seven, with Christie’s name just about visible on the back of it.

As you can imagine, supporters were quick to point this out to their club.

Ever ones to spot something with their eagle-eyes, the Hoops fans were quick onto the post to give their reaction.

What could the reason be?

It’s a really odd thing for the club to show, and you have to imagine they knew about it before it was posted. It’s not the kind of thing you would think Celtic would allow to slip through their grasp.

Even more importantly, however, is the question of just why Christie’s shirt number is seven here. Is it just a misprinted shirt without the number one on it? Or is there something really going on here?

The young Scotsman has had a flying season with the Hoops. He’s managed to bag seven goals in his last 12 matches from a midfield position. Added to that, he’s cemented himself in both the Celtic and Scotland side over the last several weeks.

Being upgraded to the number seven shirt would come a tad early though. Granted, the likes of Miku and Juninho have worn it in the past, but the club like to be careful with who they place it on.

Is Christie truly set for a huge promotion in that regard? It’s certainly one to keep an eye on.
