Given the reputation Scott Brown had as captain of Celtic, you may have expected him to become a particular type of manager.

Brown was an brilliant leader during his 14 season stint at Celtic Park. He forged a reputation as someone you didn’t mess with, and a professional with the highest standards.

He was a fiery figure who was regularly shown yellow cards, and occasionally reds. At the heart of it all was a man who knew how to win.

Brown is now manager of English League One’s Fleetwood Town. The Fishermen sit 12th in the table after 37 matches, with Brown recently leading Fleetwood to the last 16 of the FA Cup.

But his impressive first season as a manager hasn’t come from berating his players on the touchline for 90 minutes twice a week.

Brown is a changed man, as he explained to Football Scotland.

“I’m more chilled out than most people would think,” the former Scotland man said. “It’s more about the team.

“It’s not about me losing the plot here and there and showing I can shout. Everyone knows you can shout.

“It’s about understanding the tactics, the changes of shape and the personnel.

“When I played I didn’t need to worry about sorting out formations or shapes. I could have a go at the referee and it was probably better that the captain had a go than the manager.

“For me now it’s better that an assistant or the goalie coach has a say so I can get back into the changing room and make sure I am organised.”

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has a similar way of thinking. Postecoglou rarely loses his cool on the touchline, and never in response to poor officiating.

He is simply engrossed in the match he is watching. Not distracted by anything else, including irate managers like Robbie Neilson and Lee Johnson.

It seems like Scott Brown the manager is more like Postecoglou than we may have thought.

More details have also emerged about an offer Postecoglou made to Brown amid the heat of battle last season.

As we told you last week, Postecoglou had offered Brown to take an extended bow on his return to Celtic Park as an Aberdeen player.

Brown: “He said to walk around the stadium and go and take the applause that you are due.

“That’s not for me doing that with another strip on. But even small details like that and other managers I’ve spoken to speak really highly of him as well.” (Football Scotland)

Maybe, one day, we’ll get a meeting of Postecoglou and Brown on the touchline. There’s a fair bit to happen before then, though.

In other news, Hearts attacker Garang Kuol has been speaking about a meeting with Ange Postecoglou
