It is fair to say that eight months after his Celtic departure, former Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers isn’t the most popular man amongst the Hoops support.
The nature of his departure to join Premier League side Leicester City in the middle of the title race still rankles with the majority of the fans.
However, a modern day Celtic legend has praised the impact that Rodgers had on his Celtic career. That player is Scott Brown.
He has revealed that a chat with Rodgers helped him get back to his best after a series of injury issues.
“You can still play here”
“Brendan Rodgers was great because he convinced me that you can still play here in your 30s in spite of what other people think” he said, as reported by the Daily Record.
“Can I keep going until I’m 40? You never know what’s round the corner” he concluded.
Prior to Brendan Rodgers’ arrival at Celtic, it did look like Brown’s time at the club might have been coming to an end.
He looked to be a shadow of the player he once was. Injuries might well have played a part in that, as did the general poor performance of the side.
Discussion seemed to inspire player
However, that all changed when Rodgers came to the club. His talk with Brown really seems to have inspired the player.
Aside from a few poor performances, Brown has in the main been excellent for the Hoops over the last three seasons.
A big reason for that has to be the discussion that the former Hoops boss had with Brown. It has paid off for Brown as a player, and hopefully will continue to do so for the remainder of his Celtic career.
