Celtic have played much better this season than they did on Wednesday night’s 2-1 win over Hamilton. However, the circumstances of the win have made it one of the most momentous of the league season so far.
Despite conceding a 90th minute equaliser, the Hoops still managed to pull the win out of the bag thanks to Scott Brown’s 92nd minute winner. That goal put Neil Lennon’s side two points clear at the top of the league table, after Rangers drew with Aberdeen.
Brown admitted after the game Celtic didn’t play that well on the night, but he also confirmed what Celtic fans would agree with – that getting three points on the night was the most important thing.
“It wasn’t the best”
“Three points is three points. It wasn’t the best performance today by us, but we knew that” he said, as reported by the official Celtic website.
“We got the three points at the end of the day, I know it wasn’t pretty and it was late on but it’s still three points for us.”
Brown isn’t going to pretend that Celtic were at their best on the night, he is too experienced for that. However, his to the point comments will still be appreciated by the Hoops support.
Win was more important that the performance
Brown wants to see Celtic play at a high standard, and they didn’t reach that against Hamilton. However, the three points were still won, which is all that matters.
Brown told it like it is – the Hoops weren’t great on the night, but they won, and it is on to the next match. The next game is, of course, the Betfred Cup Final.
Celtic will need to play better at Hampden then they did against Hamilton. You would not bet against the Hoops raising their game on the day, and picking up the trophy. Brown will make sure that the players are up for the game, no doubt about that.
